Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Kara Spencer is the Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Hive, in Brantford, ON. After seven years as Head of Theatre Arts at Mentor College in Mississauga, she was ready to do it on her own.
Kara has an Honours degree (Drama) and teaching certificate from Queen’s University. She is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and has completed The Second City Conservatory Program.
Some of her roles include Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (Manak Productions), Polly in Crazy For You (Queen’s University), Mrs. Johnstone in Blood Brothers (Queen's University), and most recently Rona Lisa Peretti in The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee (Lock and Keynote Productions). Her Fringe 2008 performance of Ella in Ike and Pearl (Palais Productions) earned her the acknowledgment of ‘Outstanding Performance’ in NOW Magazine. She began her directing career in 2011 with Lock and Keynote Productions, and has never looked back.
Kara is competitively trained in Tap, Jazz and Ballet at I’ve Got Rhythm School of Dance, where she attained her Teacher’s Certificate in Jazz and Stage (tap) through The British Association of Teachers of Dancing.
Currently, she is teaching the pre-college program at Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and has also taught at Young People’s Theatre.
